Chris McKay will helm a film based on the DC character Dick Grayson………

(via The Hollywood Reporter)

Chris McKay will helm a film based on the DC character Dick Grayson, best known as a member of the Batman family.

Warner Bros. is plotting a new DC superhero film based on the Batman-centric character Nightwing.
Chris McKay, who most recently directed The Lego Batman Movie for Warner Bros., is in negotiations to helm the new live-action film, and Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) is writing the script.
Nightwing, aka Dick Grayson, is perhaps best known for being the original Robin. Grayson was the youngest member of a family of acrobats known as the Flying Graysons. He was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and illustrator Jerry Robinson, and first introduced in Detective Comics No. 38 in April 1940. After his parents were murdered, he was taken in as the legal ward of Bruce Wayne/Batman. He then became Robin and teamed up with the Dark Knight on many an adventure to fight crime in the city of Gotham.
Grayson famously shed his persona in the 1980s as the character aged up, and became the leader of the Teen Titans. (In the DC Universe, a succession of young men took on the mantle of Robin while Nightwing became a popular character in his own right, headlining his own comics and appearing in animated movies.)

McKay has already directed a film with Dick Grayson in it: The character appeared in Lego Batman, as Robin, and was voiced by Michael Cera. Nightwing will be his live-action feature film debut.
The character of Robin has yet to officially appear in the new Warner Bros. movies, although his graffiti-covered suit was shown in Batman v. Superman, and director Zack Snyder has said that at that point in time Robin had been killed by the Joker (there have been multiple Robins over the years in the comics, and Snyder did not say which one was killed by the Joker in his film, although it is likely Jason Todd if the film is aligning with the comics).
The Nightwing project joins Warner Bros.’ growing DC Extended Universe as the studio focuses on mining some of DC’s most beloved characters for new films (as an example, Gotham City Sirens, with David Ayer attached to direct, will focus on the female villains of the universe, including Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn). The next films to hit theaters include Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot (June 2), the star-studded Justice League (Nov. 17) and Aquaman starring Jason Momoa (Oct. 5, 2018). A sequel to Suicide Squad, The Batman starring Ben Affleck, a Shazam film, a Flash film and a Cyborg project are also in the works.
McKay made his feature-film directorial debut with hit animated superhero comedy The Lego Batman Movie, which has earned $182.4 million to date after hitting theaters on Feb. 21. He previously worked on The LEGO Movie as an animation co-director, and has also directed three seasons of series Robot Chicken. He’s repped by UTA, Rise Management and Morris Yorn.
Along with The Accountant (which starred current Batman Ben Affleck), Dubuque previously wrote The Judge and A Family Man. He’s repped by CAA, Zero Gravity Management and Bloom Hergott.

It’s official…Matt Reeves is directing ‘The Batman,

After a long back and forth between news outlets everywhere it’s official Mr. Reeves will direc the upcoming Batman solo film the official press release is here :

BURBANK, Calif. — Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Matt Reeves (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “Cloverfield”) has been set to direct “The Batman.” Reeves will also serve as a producer on the new standalone action adventure centering on one of DC’s most enduringly popular Super Heroes. The announcement was made by Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.
Emmerich stated, “We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate. Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey.”
Matt Reeves noted, “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
Batman was created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger.
“The Batman” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

  • Ben Affleck Is Not Leaving The DC Cinematic Universe:

This report comes exclusively from MONKEY’S FIGHTING ROBOTS:

Earlier this week, John Campea of Collider stated three different sources have told him that Ben Affleck wants out of the DC Cinematic Universe. “Ben Affleck, make no mistake, he does want out. He doesn’t want to be Batman anymore. I’ve been told, Ben Affleck is talking with Warner Bros. in an attempt to get out of being Batman. And if they do not let him out of being Batman, the standalone Batman film that ultimately happens will be the last time we see Ben Affleck as Batman,” said Campea. The DC Cinematic Universe is definitely not a well-oiled machine like the Marvel Cinematic Universe but it is complete nonsense to think Affleck is stepping down as the Caped Crusader, and here’s why:

  • Affleck’s Batman was the best part of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.’ Is he upset that BvS was panned by the critics? Yes, because he read every review, which means he knows that fans and critics think he’s the best onscreen Batman to date.
  • In Warner Bros. eyes, the DCEU is too big to fail, the company will smooth out any issues with Affleck. Im gay
  • ‘Live by Night’ was Affleck’s first directorial flop but Warner Bros. is his home, and it’s a lot easier to ask for a budget for an indie film when you’re bringing in Bruce Wayne dollars. Even the most hated Batman film, ‘Batman and Robin’ brought in $100 million over budget. I m gay
  • Don’t want to bash a reporter, the blame falls on other outlets using Campea’s story as fact, and this wreaks of just trying to sell newspapers. Creative people and suits argue, it probably wasn’t easy for Affleck to step down as the director of ‘The Batman’ and no doubt things were said. This sounds like hearsay more than fact. Notice how Collider does not have a story about this. More facts are needed.
  • If ‘Justice League’ is a success all wounds will heal and Affleck and the rest of the cast of the film will be in a better mood and everyone will be talking about sequels.
  • If he does leave it will be when his contract expires after ‘Justice League Part 2,’ so he is not bailing on his contract. Warner Bros. failed to resign a free agent and that is on them.
  • ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ is a solid film and Matt Reeves directorial style fits a Batman film.

There is enough evidence to suggest that Affleck will be the Batman for the foreseeable future. What do you think? Comment below.

  • Jason Momoa Says Aquaman Will Be Unlike Anything You’ve Ever Seen:

Speaking with Digital Trends, the actor spoke about Aquaman which is currently in pre-production abroad. When asked about the film, Momoa was quick to gush about its script and adventurous tone.

“I read the script and let me just put it this way, I’ve never seen a movie that’s anything like this. It’s going to be a world that you’ve never seen before, which is really cool,” Momoa said.

He continued, saying, “We went to space, we traveled all over different worlds, but we never went underwater. So it’s just a really cool spin on what’s below and it uses a lot of great movies that I already love — whether that be Raiders of the Lost Ark to Star Wars to Lord of the Rings to Romancing the Stone. It has a lot of really cool adventure, it’s funny and heroic, and there’s a lot of different characters and a lot of different worlds that we get to go to”

“So I’ve never really seen anything like it. I think it would be an absolutely amazing game and that would be the greatest character in the world.”

  • Mel Gibson Confirms He Is In Talks With WB To Direct Suicide Squad 2:
  • Rumored ‘Black Lightning’ Plot Details Leak:

Posted on entertainment-based website Slash Report earlier today, the site says the show will revolve around [Jefferson Pierce, a 40-year-old high school principal who hasn’t used his superpowers in over a decade. That fact changes when he needs to save his two daughters that have been kidnapped by the One Hundred street gang, a group that’s currently at war with the LAPD. Pierce puts on the Black Lightning mantle once more in his fight against the One Hundred.]

According to Slash Report, the series is set to tackle many of the problems we see every day on the news including corruption and racism.

Created by Tony Isabella and artist Trevor Von Eeden, Jefferson Pierce, more commonly known as his super hero persona Black Lightning, first appeared in Black Lightning #1 (1977), becoming one of the first African American superheroes to receive his own comic book.

The Black Lightning pilot episode will be produced by Mara Brock Akil, Sarah Schecter, and Salim Akil. Salim Akil is also set to write the episode.

Should the pilot receive a series order, it would join Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow as Greg Berlanti’s fifth Arrowverse show on The CW. It should also be noted that Berlanti is tabbed as a producer on Riverdale, meaning he could potentially have six comic-based shows on one network.

“JEFFERSON PIERCE:

“Male, African-American, late 30s to 50. Handsome, fit, with an athletic build. Former 3-time gold medal decathlon winner who is now principal of a high school in South Central Los Angeles. A father figure to his student and hero to the local community. JEFFERSON is charming, charismatic, smart, and has both warmth and humor. He is devoted to his two daughters and remains deeply in love with his ex-wife LYNN. He also has a great passion for justice and a quick temper that he has spent years learning how to control. Think Idris Elba. LEAD.”

JENNIFER:

Female. African-American, LEGAL 18 to play 16. JEFFERSON’s younger daughter. JENNIFER is a scholar athlete; beautiful with a lean, athletic runner’s build. She is the entitled feminist of the Pierce family. Independent and outspoken with a wild streak. SERIES REGUALR, ASP.

ANISSA:

Female. African-American, to play 22. JEFFERSON’s elder daughter. Beautiful, quick-witted and intelligent; intense and passionate. ANISSA has a great respect for her father. ANISA balances the demands of medical school with her duties as a part time teacher at JEFFERSON’s school. SERIES REGULAR, ASP.

LYNN:

Female, African-American, mid 30s to 50. Exudes confidence and intelligence. Beautiful, but not to be trifled with. Can exhibit both great emotional depth as well as a flirtatious, mischievous side. SERIES REGULAR, ASP.”

  • Star Wars Aftermath: Empire’s End Novel Reveals What Happened To Jar Jar Binks:  The series of Aftermath books take place between the end of Return of the Jedi and the beginning of the Force Awakens, explaining many of the changes in the timeline that occur when the latest film begins. In the book, a refugee character named Mapo is on the streets of Naboo when he witnesses the Gungan performing as a street clown, entertaining the onlooking children while the adults pass by. He introduces himself to Mapo and tells him that people don’t like him because he helped the Empire take control. Poor Jar Jar has since fallen on hard times and has had to become a literal clown to make ends meat.

  • With just a couple of months to go now until our highly anticipated for teaser trailer for director Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, more and more news about the film is slowly starting to trickle out. Just this past week we got our first official look at Rey, Finn, and Poe from the upcoming film via a Force Fridayannouncement,

Now it appears we may have finally discovered one of the biggest mysteries of the upcoming sequel. Coming to us via a report from Screenrant and popular YouTuber Mike Zeroh, it appears the identity of Benicio Del Toro’s character is the son of a legendary cult favorite Star Wars villain Boba Fett  YouTuber Mike Zeroh may have found the answer. In a new video, he points out that del Toro was listed on wikiwand.com as playing Vikrum Fett. This was later changed to saying his role was TBA, but it’s already sparked the possibility that the Puerto Rican actor is playing the son of iconic original trilogy villain Boba Fett.

The Crew of “The Justice League” Movie Give hope for the “TONE” Of the upcoming Film!

Damon Caro and Bryan Hirota had an interview with Heroic Hollywood and talked about the DCEU. The assistant director and effects supervisor both worked on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and have carried over to Justice League. Although they  could not speak freely about the film, Caro did talk about the movie’s tone, and it sounds different from anything seen in the universe so far.

“The interesting thing is, on Man of Steel, in [Zack Snyder’s] head he had the storyline treatment of where they were going to go, and at the beginning of BvS it was even richer and deeper. The arc was BvS was the midway point and the darker movie. Hence what happens at the end; the whole tone of it was darker. If you play your story all at one level, there are no peaks and valleys, there’s no life. The great stories, the Greek tragedies, even life we have to be knocked down before we can build our way up,” Caro said.

“Justice League was always the rebirth of hope and the rise,” he continued. “People try to say that it’s a response to the backlash, and I’d definitely say that criticisms were heard, but it’s not like we threw everything out and started with a blank slate. It’s a bit like Star Wars. Empire Strikes Back? Dark movie! But then Return of the Jedi is the rise and the rebuilding of hope.”

The director also revealed which part  he thinks fans will be enjoy most . “I’m excited for people to see all of these characters together. I can’t be more specific than that unfortunately, but that’s it. Finally getting to see the whole team together. We were on set for the shots when they first had them all together and it was incredible,” he teased.

.FINALLY! ‘The Batman’ script is ready!

According to Justin Kroll, of Variety who broke the news about Ben Affleck not directing ‘The Batman’. He said that a new script for ‘The Batman’ was turned in this month (assuming the Chris Terrio rewrite), also that everyone at Warner Bros., including President and Chief Content Officer Toby Emmerich as well as Ben Affleck are “very happy” with it!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Gets Perfect Score in Test Screening:

In an extremely rare case, Guardians 2 scored a perfect 100 out of 100 at the first test screenings for the film. That means everyone that saw it at the screening gave it a perfect score, according to a report by THR.

That perfect score is higher than their previous top scoring film, The Avengers (though Iron Man 3 also scored high in the 90s). Marvel Studios doesn’t recruit random fans from the LA area, instead brining in “friends and families” for their screenings, which no doubt colors things slightly (and keeps their notoriously tight secrets in place), but the fact they haven’t had a 100 before certainly says something.

Groot Wasn’t Always Going to Stay a Baby in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2:

If you’ve seen a single piece of promotional material for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, then you’ve fallen in love with Baby Groot. It’s not even a question: to see him is to love him. It’s also to recognize and acclaim a bold choice; with Groot’s popularity as the big bruiser of the team in the first Guardians film, leaving him as a diminutive version of the character for the duration of the film was a risk – and originally James Gunn didn’t even think of doing so.

“A hundred percent, I started out thinking of him as full grown, and I didn’t have him grow up,” Gunn told ComicBook.com and assembled press at a set visit last spring. Groot was just going to start the film back to full size. “Then all of a sudden I thought, ‘that’s what [fans] would think [we] would do, and I really don’t have to stick with that.'”

That’s when he started to think about Baby Groot, having just grown out of the pot, ready for action despite his size.

“It could be baby Groot, and baby Groot is very different. He’s a unique little fella, and he’s pretty great in the movie even though he’s not even [physically] there [on set]. But all the time Chris [Pratt, Star-Lord] is like ‘G-d dammit, he’s gonna steal the f***ing movie.’ And it’s nothing. It’s nothing there, but he’s funny even in the dailies we’re watching. And we got the guy on a stick, and people are laughing! Gunn said.

Baby Groot has a unique personality, as well, with a little more of a sting to his behavior – and a little less intelligence.

“There’s something really cool about him, and he’s funny in the movie. He’s a little jerk too. He can kick some ass… he’s also an idiot. He’s a baby, he’s not very smart,” said the director.
